The essentials
Set a budget before opening an account, and treat it as spent from the first stake. Never stake money earmarked for rent, food or debt repayment.
Never increase a stake to recover a loss: that is the most common mechanism behind things getting out of hand. Switch on a deposit ceiling when you create the account, before the first payment.
Warning signs
Staking more than planned, borrowing to stake, lying about stakes to those around you, feeling irritable when unable to stake, or continuing despite financial consequences: each of these justifies an immediate pause.
A temporary time-out and self-exclusion are available at every approved operator. Self-exclusion can be extended across the whole French market through a single registration with the Autorité Nationale des Jeux.
Where to find help
Joueurs Info Service offers free, anonymous and confidential support by phone on 09 74 75 13 13 (standard rate, 8am to 2am, seven days a week) and by chat.
The Autorité Nationale des Jeux publishes information on approved operators and on voluntary exclusion. A GP or a specialist care centre can also direct you to appropriate support.
Protecting minors
Sports betting is prohibited for anyone under 18 in France, without exception. This publication is intended for an adult audience.
If a minor has access to your device, consider parental controls. Tools such as built-in operating system filters or dedicated software can restrict access to adult-only content.
